SCADA systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) are the heart of every larger industrial plant. These systems can be considered their central nerve system. They collect data from all sorts of industrial controllers and sensors and manage how each part works together. Maybe the throughput of machine A, B and C should be reduced because one of the systems down the production-line reported problems. Not only do these systems have to react fast, they also have to provide the means for visualizing the state of the system and problems that might be occurring.
The SCADA systems market is almost completely handled by proprietary commercial software. In this talk I would like to propose my vision on how we could start building more intelligent SCADA systems using our existing Apache stack of tools. Making it possible for even small businesses to afford such systems.
