EventStorming Provides a 360-Degree View

The fundamental idea behind EventStorming is that problems cannot be solved with the same mindset that created them in the first place. A change of perspective is needed – between software architects, product owners, business analysts, developers, UX experts, and more. In projects, the primary focus is on clarifying requirements. But this usually happens without involving all stakeholders – bottlenecks are inevitable.

Understanding Complex Business Domains and Working Collaboratively

In the two-day workshops in October (15–16 Oct.) and November (26–27 Nov.), three aspects are examined using a real business problem as an example: the big picture, process modelling, and software design. EventStorming is interdisciplinary, and every workshop participant actively contributes. Over the two days of collaboration, knowledge silos between the disciplines involved dissolve, and many insights are gained. Working together to develop a solution strengthens cohesion and mutual understanding. The goal is to gain a deep and all-round understanding of the context of a complex business domain. The surprising part: processes are traced backwards from end to start.

Starting at the End

You begin at the end and reconstruct all the preceding events that led to that outcome. From those events, participants in turn derive the necessary workflows, the information required by all stakeholders, and more. This is how they gain detailed and in-depth knowledge of the domain: the how and the why.

Teaching EventStorming

The goal of the workshop is also to enable participants to run their own workshop within their team and to use EventStorming as a modelling tool to support their design decisions.

The masterclass, part of the successful Meet-the-Experts series, takes place either on 15–16 Oct. in Hamburg or on 26–27 Nov. in Munich. The workshop will be held in English. More information and the option to register are available here. Places are limited.

EventStorming Meets Domain-Driven Design

In a further four-day workshop (26–29 Aug. 2019), participants even practise these skills with hands-on modelling and training. Extensive software development projects frequently fail to deliver the expected value. Releases only make the stack more unstable and harder to change. Worse still: the fragility of the existing system burdens the entire ecosystem. Relevant business requirements may be delayed due to a lack of confidence, while good developers may be tempted to leave the project. The challenge is to find the optimal middle ground between strategy and implementation.

Combining Domain-Driven Design and EventStorming in Practice

Domain-driven design seeks to prevent exactly these problems by promoting closer alignment between business departments and software users, as well as a better approach to developing critical software.

In the four-day intensive workshop, participants learn to collaborate with stakeholders, develop software hands-on, and design robust, flexible, and high-performance architectures.

The August workshop "Domain-Driven Design – Modelling & Hands-on" in Solingen is not open to the public. If you are interested, however, you are welcome to send us an email at marketing@codecentric.de. We will be happy to provide you with more detailed workshop information and discuss with you whether participation makes sense for you.
