Background
At the start of the project, designing furniture with FurnSpin fittings was a complex process that required considerable expert advice and in-depth knowledge. The necessary calculations were previously carried out in an Excel spreadsheet and represented a challenge in terms of time and personnel for both Hettich and its customers. Hettich was increasingly dissatisfied with this cumbersome process and wanted a more efficient, user-friendly service.
codecentric came into contact with Hettich through a recommendation from a business partner. After initially considering purchasing a ready-made standard solution from another service provider, Hettich deliberately opted for a customized solution from codecentric, as the company needed a flexible, individually adaptable solution. This decision enabled Hettich to offer its customers a tailor-made, user-centered application that is precisely tailored to the specific requirements of the furniture industry and the intended use case.
Solution
The "FurnSpin Configurator" was developed in close collaboration with the customer and offers a digital platform that guides users step by step through the furniture configuration process. The application was developed using state-of-the-art technologies, including Vue.js for a responsive front end and NestJS for a robust back end that handles calculations efficiently and accurately.
Thanks to an agile development approach, codecentric was able to respond flexibly to changing customer requirements with just one or two developers and implement a customized solution that met all expectations in only 70 person-days. Long-term quality assurance is guaranteed by a maintenance contract between codecentric and Hettich.
The solution makes it possible to perform complicated algorithm-based calculations that are fundamentally possible without a specialist consultant. If the customer needs support, a specialist consultant can view the configuration in the browser and solve the case together with the customer.
Result
With the “FurnSpin Configurator 
,” Hettich customers can now easily create configurations thanks to a great user experience. This was achieved through iterative improvement and the involvement of the specialist department and end users.
The automation of calculations and user guidance via a wizard not only save time, but also considerable consulting costs. Customers benefit from immediate access to accurate and reliable configurations for their furniture projects. This highlights Hettich's position as an innovative market leader in the industry.
Once the configuration is complete, users receive detailed PDF documentation when they sign up for the newsletter. This contains precise installation instructions for the FurnSpin in the configured piece of furniture. The double added value here is that customers receive all the necessary technical information, while Hettich generates qualified leads for sales activities.
