Managed GitLab: frequently asked questions

What authentication methods does Managed GitLab support?

GitLab supports a variety of identity providers – including Azure AD and Google. Provider-independent protocols such as OAuth or SAML are also possible. In addition to these methods, it is possible to configure LDAP.

Under which domain can Managed GitLab be accessed?

We provide GitLab as a Service to you by default at the following address: gitlab.kunde.entwicklungsautobahn.de. If desired, we can also configure the domain as follows: gitlab.your_domain.xyz

What information do I need to provide as a client for setup?

We collect a range of information in an online form used during the contract initiation process. This includes both technical and organizational information relevant to setup. It includes:

- The domain under which GitLab is to be accessible.
- Credentials for email functionality (SMTP or IMAP)
- Credentials for setting up an authentication procedure

Once we have this information, we will schedule a call with you to coordinate the technical details for the configuration.

Are licenses included in the packages?

Installation includes the free-tier GitLab Enterprise Edition. You can also use a Premium or Ultimate license. However, you must purchase these separately. If you wish, we can arrange a test license for you, giving you a 30-day free trial.

Where can I purchase a Premium or Ultimate license?

As a certified GitLab Select Partner, we are happy to offer you additional licenses.

Where will my data be stored?

Your data is stored in the OVHcloud data center in Frankfurt. As an option, we can also back up your important data in a geo-redundant manner in Gravelines, France. You can find more information about OVHcloud's data centers on this website.

Can I bring or use my own GitLab runner?

Managed GitLab supports the integration of your own GitLab runner, which can be registered in GitLab. You, as the client, are responsible for operating and managing your runners.

Can I upgrade to a larger Managed GitLab package?

You can always switch to a larger package or to a custom setup.

How long do the packages for GitLab SaaS run for?

Our packages have a minimum term of 12 months.

Can I use Mattermost?

Managed GitLab uses GitLab functionality, so you can include Mattermost. The operation of Mattermost is currently not a Managed GitLab service.

Is it possible to use the docker-in-docker feature?

The GitLab runner included in the standard package does not support this feature. Our dynamic CI add-on in the privileged version offers you specially secured CI environments where you can use the docker-in-docker feature with a clear conscience.

Do you also provide macOS runners?

No, at the moment we cannot provide you with macOS-based CI runners. You can log in your own macOS runner via the interface on the system. You are responsible for maintaining the runners.
